Autumn creative writing workshop series with novelist, Linda Little.
Each Saturday, through October 4 to 25 and November 8 to 25. Please note there is no program on Saturday, November 1.
Each Saturday in the Westville Public Library Program Room, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Make a real good liar of yourself! Learn how to tell a story in a convincing and engaging manner.
Each of the sessions will be divided into two parts: an interactive workshop on a specific aspect of writing and then a workshopping session where participants present their work in progress for critiquing. The topics covered in the course will include: creating full, well-rounded characters, creating images, tension, editing, dialogue, reading well, and publishing.

The New Glasgow Library is pleased to host an introductory, screenwriting workshop with writers, Iain MacLeod and Glen Shadbolt. Drawing on his experience as a writer for Street Cents and the Trailer Park Boys, MacLeod will cover the basics of screenwriting and getting your ideas on paper. On the technical side, Shadbolt will assist by demonstrating how to use a screenwriting template program following specific script presentation guidelines as used in the film industry.

The News (www.ngnews.ca) is launching a short story contest with prize money going to the top three entries. First place prize will be $150, second $100 and third $75.Contest Rules:
- Stories must be original work of fiction, never before published.
- Between1,500 words and 2,500 words.
- Double spaced on white 8.5 x 11″ paper, printed one side only.
- Pages should be identified by STORY TITLE only (showing nothing to identify the author).
- A separate cover sheet with story title, name, address, phone number and approximate word count, must accompany manuscript.
- Deliver or mail to The News, P.O. Box 159, 352 East River Rd., New Glasgow, B2H 5E2.
- Deadline to enter is May 15.
Open to all residents of Northern Nova Scotia except employees of The News and immediate family members.

Writer-In-Residence for the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library, Linda Little, will begin the second part of her tenure in January as she moves her base of operations to the libraries branches of Pictou County. On Monday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. she will be at the River John Public Library to deliver the first in a series of six workshops in creative writing. The following week, on January 21, at 11:00 a.m., she will be at the New Glasgow Public Library for six sessions for residents in this area. In addition, she will be taking appointments for personal meetings for anyone seeking advice on writing and publishing.
